Edward Kinna
Return
Edward Kinna born 29-5-1842 in Blackcraig later Edward McKenzie
Margaret Robertson née Laird born 1850 married 1875 died 19-03-1902 in Christchurch NewZealand

Edward was the 7th child of David and Matilda. when he was 4 years old his mother died. So I believe that the younger children were looked after by other family members. William Milligan, Margaret's father, was a farmer and Edward may have gone to them initialy. In the 1851 census he is shown living with his Father, his brothers David and Robert and his sister Jane.
In the 1861 census he has joined his elder brother John in Liverpool.
Since he is not in the 1871 census it is assumed that Edward had sailed to NewZealand, maybe working his passage, but he charged his name to McKenzie. It is not known why, but it is said that he took the name of the Captin of the ship.
It is also said that he left Scotland after trouble with a farmer, most probably William Milligan, his mothers father.
Edward married in Christchurch in 1975 to Margaret Laird, and seems to have involved in the Drapery business as his brothers. Latterly he was Floor Walker at the large Department Store, Strange Bros. in Christchurch.
He was buried in Linwood Cemetery block 29 plot 181, Occupation - Draper.
